I
have just
completed my BA at McGill, majoring in Psychology
and Sociology,
and am now looking forward to spending the next year
Coordinating the MIDC. I have done a lot of travelling in my life and
hope to continue to do so in the near future. My studies over the past
four years, and now my work at MIDC,
have made me love psychology enormously. While my future is still a
tabula rasa at the moment, I only hope psychology (particularly social
psychology) will play a big role in my life later on. On the side I
also love sports (particularly volleyball), animals, and being with
friends (to name just a few). |
|
I
am a U3 student
majoring in psychology and minoring in Italian
language. I am currently a project student and I am having an amazing
time learning what it takes for a research lab to run smoothly. I am
most interested in early cognitive development, language acquisition
and abnormal psychology. In my free time my favourite things are going
to concerts, taking long road trips with friends and cheering on the
Habs. |

I
am year 3
psychology major and behavioural science minor and intend on pursuing
graduate studies in clinical psychology or language acquisition. When
I'm not elbow deep in schoolwork, I enjoy flipping through national
geographic, traveling, watching the discovery civilization channel, and
expanding my iTunes library with music I never get around to listening
to. |
|
You
could say that
human experience is my area of interest. I love psychology for two big
reasons: 1) its oh-so-satisfying relevance to fundamental questions
such as "how do we understand the world?", "what is knowledge?", and
"how does my unbelievably complex brain construct these awesome
experiences, this awesome flavour of existence?" and 2) its potential
application to an infinite number of other fields, from politics and
inter-group oppression to social organisation, scientific
investigation, and education. I'm a U2 Honours Psychology student with
the Faculty of Science with ongoing interests in social psychology and
cognitive/computational modelling. MIDC has already given me an
incredible insight into the world of research and experiment design and
a particular appreciation for infant studies! |

Hey
I'm Eric
Freedman, and I'm in my third year at McGill. I'm majoring in
Psychology and minoring in Anthropology. I have worked with children
for a few years now, and am interested in the clinical aspects of
psychology. When not in the lab I enjoy many different activities like
playing sports, music, hanging out with friends, and reading. I am very
curious as to what cognitive abilities young infants possess, so the
lab is a great way of discovering them. |
|
I
am an exchange
student here in McGill. My major is Psychology. I love to investigate
what others are thinking in their heads. I am so glad that I can
participate in this lab. I am looking forward to having fun while
learning a lot here. I enjoy eating, talking to different people and
watching TV drama. I hope to be a clinical psychologist in the future.
But right now I will try my best to enjoy life in Montreal and travel
around as many part of Canada as I can before I leave. |

I
am in my fourth
year at McGill, double majoring in Psychology and Art History with a
minor in English Literature. I am really happy to be working at MIDC
because I am really interested in cognitive development and the very
many things that are actually going through the minds of young infants.
I hope to continue studying developmental psychology after I graduate
and return to the states. But before that happens, I hope to rekindle
my love of travel and language learning myself. When I am not in the
lab, I am probably reading, doing yoga or baking, my other passions in
life. |
|
I
just completed my
first year of Psychology B.A. (Minor Concentration Behavioural Science)
and am very excited in participating in this lab. Psychology, the
brain, language acquisition and babies are fascinating to me! Outside
of school, I love arts (I have a strong background in dancing), music,
people, chocolate, and new challenges. |

What's
up,
website-goers? My name is Jocelyn and I'm an undergrad student in the
final year of my BA&Sc at McGill (majoring in psychology and
minoring in philosophy and English literature). I very much appreciate
the opportunity to be volunteering with this lab because (1) I've
always been fond of working with children, and (2) I'm learning a lot
about the research-oriented side of cognitive psychology, which I knew
very little about before this experience. Outside of the lab, I'm an
avid reader, I attempt to check out live music on a weekly basis, and
I've recently gotten into photography. In a nutshell, I'm an empathic,
easygoing, introspective hippie/book nerd/music enthusiast who's
passionate about a great deal of things in life. |
|
I
am finishing up my
last year at McGill completing a major in psychology and a minor in
sociology. I am currently working in the lab on a project that looks at
how speech relates to the animate/inanimate distinction. I hope to go
on in the field of cognitive development and learn more about how young
infants determine what's animate and how they acquire theory of mind.
In my spare time I enjoy reading and going to the gym to play squash. |

I
am in my third
year here at McGill, majoring in Psychology and Minoring in Social
Studies of Medicine. I really enjoy volunteering at the lab because it
enables me to gain a deeper understanding of how perceptions develop in
infants. I love working with kids and have been doing so for a long
time. School, studying and the lab are predominantly where I am.
Outside of the lab and school I enjoying spending time with my friends
and just frolicking about Montreal. |
|
My
name is Maylin
Kanter and I am in my 3rd undergraduate year at McGill, double majoring
in Linguistics and Psychology. I am originally from Toronto, although
Montreal quickly became a second home for me considering I was
immediately attracted to it's exciting culture and beautiful
architecture. In the future, I plan on pursing the field of Speech
Pathology where I preferably hope to be working with younger
children! In my spare time I am very much interested in the Arts.
Currently, I am on McGill's Hip Hop Troupe; Urban Groove Dance Project,
although in high school I was a drama major and competitively danced
throughout. Working with MIRG has been exciting, educational and fun! |

I’m
a BSc
Psychology major and Women studies minor (U2) and I am in looove with
my undergrad experience at McGill! Psychology to me answers in a solid
scientific manner the puzzling but oh-so interesting philosophical
questions about human existence. I know that sounds a little bit strong
of a statement but I am so curious to learn more about perception,
conscience, memory, dreams, the self, etc (the list goes on and on!). I
believe it’s a science that everyone can benefit from and
it’s helping me grow into a more conscientious individual.
Working as a volunteer for the MIDC is giving me so much knowledge into
how the science of psychology is done in action and I’m
thankful to contribute the little that I can to the field of cognitive
child development! |
|
I
am a second year
biology student concentrating in neurobiology and genetics.
I’ve always been passionate about brain development but as
you can see, I mostly study the molecular side of it. The reason why I
love being in this lab is because I can actually get to see and learn
about the behavioural side of brain development! Apart from being the
biggest nerd around I enjoy music, horseback riding and travelling. I
wish I had a chance to do those more often though! |

I'm
in my third year
at McGill and I'm majoring in Psychology and double minoring in
Sociology and Hispanic Language. I love children and I can't wait to
learn more about their cognitive development through the hands-on work
here at MIDC. I'm from Berkeley, California and I like ice cream,
adventures, and laughing with good friends. |
|
This
is my second
semester at the MIDC. I am back for one more semester because
I have developed an appreciation for the continuous revision and update
of studies so that more can be understood about cognitive
development. Being in my third and final year of my
undergraduate degree, I am looking into speech-language pathology
programs in Canada and the U.S. When I'm not studying,
I'm in a pool practicing with the McGill Synchro team,
teaching gymanstics to 3-5 year olds or socializing with friends. |

I
am a fourth-year McGill student majoring in Psychology and minoring in
Linguistics. This will be my first research experience, so
I’m
really excited to be involved with the lab and learn something new! I
also work in a speech therapy clinic, and after I finish my
Bachelor’s degree, I hope to become a speech-language
pathologist
myself. In my spare time (what’s that?), I like friends,
music,
good food and sunshine!
|
|
I
am in the final year of my Psychology B.A (minoring in Behavioural
Neuroscience and Hispanic studies). I have been exploring
many
different fields of research (from hospital settings to multiethnic
schools) as my interests are very eclectic. The MIDC is
particularly exciting to me beacuse it includes many different areas of
psychology. It is also very challenging and, mostly, so well
organized! It provides me a practical understanding of research and a
strong sense of responsibility and initiative. All of us get
to
share our experience and point of view with others. It builds a
research team with a great deal of energy and motivation and it is very
inspiring. |

I
have recently finished my second undergraduate year in the honours
linguistics program at McGill. As well as having an active
interest in theoretical linguistics (particularly syntax), I am
fascinated by processes of child language acquisition and am very
excited to take part in studying infant language development and
cognition in my role as volunteer with MIDC. Upon completion
of
my undergraduate degree, I plan to pursue graduate studies in
linguistics. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, traveling,
and
exploring Montréal.

Since
I can remember
I have been interested in a career in the field of psychology. As a U3
student I am delving deeper into the cognitive processes guiding our
perception of the world. For me, there is no topic more interesting
than the human mind and thinking about how we think; understanding the
aggregate of external stimuli with which we are presented at every
moment. In my spare time I instruct Yoga. I received my 200h level
certification from the Yandara Yoga Institute in Baja, Mexico. Along
with a soon to be completed degree in Behavioral Science my interest in
the mind-body connection, meditation, and proper alignment is growing.
I am continuously attending workshops and hope to one day draw a
parallel between the science of Yoga and Psychology! |

Hi
my name is Natania- but most people call me Tanz, and I am a U2
Psychology student with a minor in English- Cultural Studies.
Volunteering at this lab has made me realize how intelligent babies
are- even before they can talk! Working in Kris Onishi's lab
is awesome because as student volunteers, we actually get to
participate in the experiments and contribute to the research,
rather than just entering data into a computer. After many,
many
years of school, I plan to pursue a career in clinical
psychology
so that I can help people figure out how to work through
life's
hardships.

Hi,
I’m
Talia, I just completed my second year of my undergrad here at McGill
in Psychology. I am very excited to be a part of the MIDC. Volunteering
in this lab will allow me to learn and apply knowledge in new and
interesting ways. When I am not at school or studying, I am working as
a tutor/ mentor for adolescents with learning disabilities, dancing the
tango or doing yoga. I also love traveling and hanging out with
friends. When I finish my B.A in Psychology I plan on going to graduate
school and work with children. |

I
just completed my Bachelor of Science with a major in Psychology. I am
fascinated by the realm of infant and childhood development, and the
MIDC /CDEM lab is an excellent way to learn about how infants acquire
language as well as different perceptual milestones. I hope to one day
work with children, and more specifically as a Speech Language
Pathologist. In my free time I love reading, seeing movies, seeing
friends and travelling.

I
am a U3 student
currently pursuing a BSc along with a Psychology Major. I discovered my
love for psychology in my second year at Cegep. Ever since, I enjoy
learning about the multiple aspects of psychology and have grown
interest in this field. I chose to volunteer with the MIDC, because I
was interested in seeing how studies were carried out as well as being
part of a research team. On a more personal note, I love the outdoors
and enjoy being downtown on nice sunny days. I enjoy attending hockey
games, particularly cheering on my favourite team – the
Canadiens. I am usually open minded, so I enjoy trying out different
things. One final note, science is a big part of my life – I
love learning about the Universe. |

My
first year at McGill as a Psych major has without a doubt confirmed my
passion for understanding the complexities of the human mind and
behaviour! I'm very excited to be in the backstage of various
studies at Midc as well as to work with a team who shares my interest
in psychology. Having the opportunity to volunteer with Midc is a great
experience for me to learn more about the cognitive development that
occurs at a very crucial stage in life: infancy. Also, to
participate in research concerning their acquisition of language is of
particular interest for me, who grew up in a bilingual home. After my
undergrad, I aspire to continue in the field of psychology however, I
have yet to decide between research or clinical psychology, as both
seem fascinating to me. Outside of university work, I love
being
active and adore any opportunity to travel!
|
|
I
am a U2 student
majoring in Honours Linguistics and Psychology. I love all linguistic
fields, but I’m particularly fascinated by child language
acquisition and aphasic language breakdown. When I’m not
trying to solve neurolinguistic mysteries, I’m usually
playing with my pug puppy, debating politics, or watching old movies.
After I graduate next year, I plan on attending medical school back in
the United States.
