Graduate school applicants: Because of
impending retirement, I am regrettably no longer accepting PhD students.
Where
else can you do research on personality and psychopathology?
There are a
number of outstanding Canadian clinical psychologists whose research lies
in the broad area of vulnerability to depression and anxiety. Here's
a partial list:
Myriam
Mongrain, York University, Toronto, Ontario
Darcy
Santor, University of Ottawa
David Dunkley, Department of Psychiatry,
McGill University
Gordon Flett, York University, Toronto,
Ontario
David Clark, University of New Brunswick,
Fredericton, NB
Paul Hewitt, University of British Columbia,
Vancouver, British Columbia
Brian Cox, University of Manitoba
Simon Sherry, Dalhousie University
Allison Kelly, Waterloo University
Mike Bagby, University of Toronto

undergraduate research courses: I hope to recruit two U-3 Honours students
who have already done one honours thesis and want to do a second 9-credit
thesis. This years projects will be
somewhat demanding and therefore I do not want to recruit students in 380
or in the 6 credit, 1-semester courses such as 395, 396, and 495. One project will connect the literature
on personality vulnerability to depression (dependency and self-criticism;
Zuroff et al., 2004) and the social psychological literature on
forgiveness. The other will link
dependency and self-criticism and the social psychological literature on
jealousy and/or envy. Personality
vulnerability is my area of expertise, but I am not knowledgeable about
jealousy and forgiveness. Therefore
a significant part of the challenge for students will be to conduct
extensive literature reviews on one of these areas. Because of the foci of these projects, I
will only consider students who have at least one social psychology course
beyond the core course (e.g., 332, 333, 471, 473, 474).
If you are interested, please complete
this form and email it to me: Application form for research
courses.
Undergrads interested in my research might also be interested in working in
the lab of Dr. David Dunkley.
