Online Research Experiments


In addition to traditional experiments done in our labs, many research projects in the Department are performed online.

We invite you to participate in these experiments to help scientific research by clicking on the name of the experiment below. In addition, you will get to know better the kinds of projects that are done in the Department in a fun and interactive way!

All experiments listed here have received approval from the Research Ethics Board at McGill University for the ethical treatment of human participants in experiments. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the faculty member listed under "Supervisor" for each experiment.

 


Online Experiments List



Food Choice Study

Supervisor: Thomas R. Shultz

Description: The Laboratory for Natural and Simulated Cognition at McGill University invites 18+ year old volunteers for an online food selection study. Participants will see sets of food items with nutritional labels and select the preferred product, then fill out a survey on basic personal information (ex. age, sex, weight/height) after the food choice task.

Compensation: Nutrition and health related information.
This experiment should take approx. 10-15 minutes to complete. Does not require downloading software to your computer.

Participants Wanted!

Details: We need both women and men, ages 18-40, all levels of music of musical experience. You can't be taking any medication (except birth control), and you can't have alcohol or drug dependence. The experiment involves taking a single dose naltrexone, a safe and widely prescribed drug for chemical dependence, to study its effects on music. This research has been approved by the McGill Research Ethics Board.

Please note: this is not an online experiment; it is an online questionnaire that will enter you into a paid Participant Pool for social psychology experiments being conducted by McGill psychology professors and their graduate students. Once you complete this questionnaire, you may be contacted and asked to participate in experiments in person. Completing this questionnaire in no way obligates you to participate in a study if you are contacted. If you do decide to participate in a study, they provide on average $10/hour as compensation for your time.

Are You Rational?

Supervisor: Thomas R. Shultz

Description: This is a study of human inference under uncertainty.

It involves answering four inference problems based on your intuitive judgments, taking approximately 5-10 minutes.

 


Thought and Feelings about Self and Others (Social and Personality Psychology)

Supervisor: Mark W. Baldwin

Description: This is a study of attitudes and feelings about self and others.

It involves simply filling out a set of questionnaires, taking approximately 20 minutes. An explanation of the study's hypotheses is presented at the end.
