I did my undergraduate studies at Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México in Psychology, focusing on cognitive development and neuroscience. I am interested in the development of early social abilities, such as the processes involved in understanding the behavior of others, which are important for social interactions.
My name is Tamara and I am a third year student attending Univeristy of Toronto Mississauga specializing in Psychology but with a focus on abnormal development. I am from Montreal and therefore continue to come back for the summers since it reinforces my interest for languages. I have always had a soft spot for children and now I feel very fortunate that I am able to work with them. My work at the MIDC has provided me with opportunities that reinforce my love for child psychology and I am excited to find out where it brings me!

I'm completing my fourth year at McGill as a Psychology major with minors in Behavioural Science and Management.  At MIDC I'll be completing an undergraduate research project and providing support for an ongoing study.  My research interests include cognitive development and language acquisition in infants and adults.  As a monolingual I have always been jealous of those who can just "pick up" a new language, so my long term goal is to develop evidence-based methods of teaching second languages more effectively.  Outside the lab many know me as the Co-Editor-in-Chief of Leacock's Online Magazine.
I am currently completing my BA in Psychology with minors in Linguistics and Educational Psychology. My research interests include learning and memory in children, as well as language acquisition. Working at the MDC had provided me many opportunities to both closely observe and work with children in order to strengthen my understanding of their behaviour. Not only had this been a valuable experience towards my academic life, but it has also been a rewarding experience in my personal life. In the future, I would like to continue my studies in Educational Psychology or Applied Child Psychology.

I am presently in my second year of studies at McGill University, majoring in Psychology and minoring in Education. I am interested in learning and actively participating in the research of infants' perceptual and cognitive development. I am also curious about the difference that exists between a child and an adult in the process of observing, learning, understanding and thinking. Volunteering in MIDC will give me a chance to experience research in the field of Psychology and I have no doubt that this opportunity will help me in the near future as well.   I'm a second year undergraduate student majoring in psychology and minoring in sociology and behavioural neuroscience. I love children and I always wondered if I would like to work every day with them and their parents, so the MIDC is offering me a great experience to see if I would be able or not. I know that this research will give me great experiences in the research domain. I hope to study clinical psychology with more emphasis on social psychology or in sports psychology.

I am currently in my third year at McGill University, majoring in Cognitive Science with focuses in psychology and philosophy. I am interested in the developmental processes that children go through and to what extent each factor in their lives effects their mental, social and physical development. MIDC is offering me great insight into how labs study different aspects of development and I hope to apply my experiences in this lab to my own research in the future.   Hi, my name is Olivia and I am currently completing my BA in Psychology with minors in Behavioural Neuroscience and Sociology. I am very excited to be part of the MIDC team this summer and look forward to learning more about the perceptual and cognitive development of infants. I love children and have always been fascinated with what they are able to acomplish from a very young age. While volunteering for the MIDC, I am looking to perfect my analytical and observational skills in the hope of eventually pursuing a career in Couseling or Educational Psychology.

Hello, stranger. I don't know who you are, but I'm a U3 Psych & Econ double major. The MIDC's great! I'm piling on tons of practical knowledge. And the babies, they're adorable! Research topics that pique my interest: Theory of Mind, the development of irony/sarcasm and humor in children, the existence of a moral utility function, bilingual first language acquisition, TMT, and some other stuff. I don't like peanut butter, pineapple, or popcorn, but I do like alliteration.

I am currently going into my 3rd year of my BA in psychology at McGill with a minor in Behavioural Neuroscience and Anthropology. The aspects of the environment that are processed and retained in infants are topics that especially interest me. I believe this research experience will better prepare me to pursue a career in Clinical Psychology, which is my desired field.

Hello, I am starting my second year at McGill wt a major in Psychology and a minor in Sociology. My interests include the development of cogniive and psychosocial processes in children. As such, the way children interact with their environment and how it influences then in return particularly fascinates me. As a volunteer of the MIDC, I am happy to be part of a dynamic and deidicated team with whom I have the opportunity to explore the many aspects of cognitive research.

Hi, I am a half French, half American U2 student majoring in Psychology and minoring in Behavioural Science and Education. I am seriously considering going into a Child Development Masters program following my graduation at McGill and I believe that this research opportunity at the MIDC will help me in deciding what I would like to do in the future. So far, I love the responsibility volunteers are given and I am having so much fun working with my fellow research assistants and of course the adorable participants.

Ciao! I recently flew in from the Netherlands where my passion for children's cognitive and linguistic development was ignited. After completing my BA's in Linguistics and Italian Language and Culture with honor I felt like the time was right to broaden my knowledge on how psycholinguistic research with children is conducted on the other side of the ocean. One of the main questions I'm interested in is how a bilingual and a monolingual development differentiate from each other. Aside from that, I'm very eager to learn more on how infants perceive and deal with the input they receive in the world. Therefore I feel very lucky to have the possibility to work with the inspiring and ambitious researchers at the MIDC. I adore children a lot, especially when they are multilingual!

I am currently in my third year at McGill University, majoring in Psychology and minoring in World Religions. I am interested in learning about how children come to perceive the world and their cognitive development, so I am excited to be part of this research team. After completing my BSc, I would like to continue my studies in medicine. Besides what I study, I am from Tokyo, Japan and my hobbies include traveling, basketball, scuba diving and paying the guitar.

I'm in my last year of undergrad at McGill, majoring in Cognitive Science with specialization in Linguistics and minoring in Psychology and East Asian Language and Literature. At MIDC, I investigate infants' abilities to use linguistic and non-linguistic cues for speech segmentation. I'm also currently working on a project that examines Korean syntax through Korean adult speakers' judgments on sentences with ambiguous meanings. In the future, I hope to pursue graduate studies in experimental psycholinguistics. I'm excited to be back for my third year at MIDC!

Hi, my name is Tom and I am a U2 undergraduate student at McGill doing my major in Cognitive Science with a minor in philosophy. I find the brain fascinating and language in particular is an area I find particularly interesting. I joined the MIDC team in order to gain some valuable research experience and also to get a hands on view of how research happens. I hope to continue my studies and research beyond an undergraduate degree. Here at the MIDC I work on the adult studies.

Cybelle Abate

Chelsea Wellman

Hi! My name is Cybelle and I'm entering my third year as a psychology major at McGill. I'm very excited to be a volunteer at the lab. Child development is fascinating and there is so much to learn. It is very important to gather knowledge about the cognitive aspects and language of developing children and also of adults. The project I'm involved in concerns more specifically sound patterns and language development. In the future, I wish to study clinical psychology and use the tools I gathered through research experience to help those with abnormal development.

Hello! I just completed the third year of my BSc at McGill where I am majoring in Psychology and minoring in Biology. Within the field, I am primarily interested in the development of children, both typical and abnormal. As a result, the MIDC is a perfect fit for me and I am thrilled to be joining the team for the summer! I am looking forward to gaining valuable hands on experience in a research setting, learning more about specific aspects of child development and, most importantly, working with children!

Gabrielle van Dongen

Mark Tsai

Hi! My name is Gabrielle and I am a U2 student, majoring in psychology. I just started volunteering and am very excited to be part of the MIDC CDEM team! I hope that my experience as a volunteer will help me know more about the basics of research and help me find what I do and don't like - in general, I hope it will make me learn more about myself as a psychology student. It's a new challenge for me, but so far it looks promising! I am particularly interested in childhood disorders such as autism and ADHD, as well as the general development of the neural system. After I graduate from McGill, I hope to get into graduate studies, though I am still pretty indecisive about the precise program.

Hi! My name is Mark, and I just finished my U2 year in Psychology with a minor in Interdisciplinary Life Sciences. I am working at the MIDC as a summer project student, and hope to use this opportunity to learn as much about research as I can. Currently, I am working on a project that investigates whether infants are able to understand the perspectives of others, and whether this knowledge can guide their behavior. After this summer, I will be heading to Vancouver to study Medicine at UBC, and am looking to become a paediatrician after I graduate.
