I
just finished my undergrad in Psychology at McGill University. My main
interests revolve around topics of deviance and abnormality. At the
MIDC, I am particularly interested in studies involving theory of mind
and how children learn about the world and the patterns that surround
them. In adult studies, how the influence of cultural exposure can
affect our ability to learn simple language rules.
In the future, I would like to complete a doctorate in Clinical
Psychology with a side of research - the topic of which is still being
debated.

Hello!
My name is Christina and I am a U3 Cognitive Science student with
concentrations in Psychology and Neuroscience, with a minor in
Sociology. I am very interested in bilingualism, due to my background
in both Mandarin and English. It has fascinated me that people can
think differently merely because of the languages that they speak, for
example, I did all mental math in Mandarin up until grade 10! I am
extremely excited to be a part of MIDC this year, it is an amazing
opportunity to gain research experience and hone essential skills such
as organization and communication. I hope to be able to apply the
skills learned at the Centre to all of my future endeavours.

Hi,
my name is Kayla and I am a U4 project student majoring in Psychology
with an Interdisciplinary Life Sciences minor. This year I am looking
forward to gaining experience in psychological research and working as
a team at the MIDC. My interests lie in similarity and dissimilarity of
languages and how that can be applied to adults who want to learn a new
language. Upon graduation I hope to pursue a career in counseling.

Hi
! My name is Cassandra and I just ended the first year of my bachelor
degree at McGill University in psychology. In this particular field,
the neurologic aspect really fascinates me, the brain being an
interesting world yet to be discovered. Coming from a French family and
growing up in an English neighborhood, I was exposed to both languages
very young until I decided to learn a third one throughout my studies.
As a trilingual, I am very interested in bilingualism; especially how
the brain circuitry is formed while a language is being learned. As a
volunteer at the MIDC, I am lucky enough to discover how children learn
a language and how they represent the world surrounding them. Also, I
think this is a great experience as I learn firsthand how research is
conducted and its subtleties. |

Hi,
my name is Nicholas Cunningham and I am a second-year student at
McGill, where I study linguistics, cognitive science, and Arabic
language. The mechanics of human cognition (especially with regard to
language) have always interested me, and the MIDC has proved the
perfect place to see this in action. |

Hi,
my name is Maria. I am on my second year as an undergraduate student at
McGill. I am majoring in Psychology, as well as minoring in Behavioural
Neuroscience and in Anthropology. I am interested in the development of
children and I am excited at having the opportunity to work at MIDC. I
love interacting with children and gaining new experience. In the
future, I am hoping to pursue my dream of becoming a certified
psychologist.

Hi!
My name is Stephanie and I am in my third year at McGill studying
Psychology with minors in Behavioral Science and Sociology. I grew up
with my mom’s daycare kids running around my living room and
have
always been fascinated by how they learn about and perceive the world
around them. I am super excited to be volunteering at the MIDC this
semester to explore these interests as well as the field of
experimental research. I hope to pursue graduate studies in counseling
or special education once I graduate from McGill. |
