Yoshio Takane is Professor of Psychology at McGill University. He has a Ph.D from both the University of Tokyo and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He has a long standing interest in quantitative approaches to psychological phenomena. His contributions to the field include developments of nonmetric methods of multivariate analysis, maximum likelihood multidimensional scaling, choice models incorporating systematic individual differences, principal component analysis with linear constraints on both rows and columns of a data matrix, among others. His most recent interests include neural network analysis, development of statistical expert systems, projectors and various kinds of singular value decomposition, etc. He teaches courses on experimental design, multidimensional scaling, and structural equation models. He is married with Yuriko Oshima-Takane, a developmental psychologist specialized in language development, particularly in the learning of pronouns, and has two children, Marina 19, and Kenji 12.
