PSYC 204 (Fall and Winter)
Introduction to Psychological Statistics    (3 credits)


(Restriction: Not open to students who have passed a CEGEP statistics course(s) with a minimum grade of 75%: Mathematics 201-307 or 201-337 or equivalent or the combination of Quantitative Methods 300 with Mathematics 300) (This course is a prerequisite for PSYC 305, PSYC 406, PSYC 310, PSYC 336) (You may not be able to receive credit for this course and other statistic courses. Be sure to check the Course Overlap section under Faculty Degree Requirements in the Arts or Science section of the Calendar.) The statistical analysis of research data; frequency distributions; graphic representation; measures of central tendency and variability; elementary sampling theory and tests of significance.

Content:  This is a half course in elementary statistics. The emphasis is on statistical methods appropriate for analyzing experimental data.

Additional Info:   Psychology PSYC 204 or its equivalent is a prerequisite for Psychology PSYC 305 which is required of all students who propose to Major or Honour in Psychology. Students who have successfully completed one or more of the following courses in other departments are considered to have had the equivalent of Psychology PSYC 204, and may not take Psychology PSYC 204 for credit: Agriculture AGRI 310; Biology BIOL 373; Economics ECON 227, ECON 257; Geography GEOG 202; Management MGCR 271; Mathematics MATH 203,  Sociology SOCI 350. Students who have completed statistics courses in CEGEP that may be equivalent to PSYC 204 should see an advisor or the professor to request exemption.
